WORKPLACE MEDIATION
For most people, work involves one third of our daily lives. We sleep one third and live out the other third in our personal life. Similar to family and friend relations, workplace relations can be healthy and engaging or divisive, stressful and negative causing a toll on health and well being.
Work place conflict can develop from unclear expectations, poor communication, gossip, lack of respect, management issues or lack of support and resources. Every employee and employer wants to have a healthy and productive place to work.
Mediation helps employees and employers save valuable time, money and energy by avoiding dismissal, grievances, arbitration, loss of workplace productivity due to stress or illness. When attempts to resolve the conflict within the workplace have not been successful, mediation offers a next step response to conflict among staff.
The initial steps involve the mediator meeting individually with involved staff in a confidential, private setting, usually off site. Individuals identify their concerns, interests and responsibilities and or contributions involving the conflict. Finally, a meeting or meetings happen with the people involved and they are guided into respectful listening and dialogue and move into brainstorming and offering up of real and helpful suggestions for a better workplace.
